Kelsey Wieberdink Performs in Ensemble Concert at Belhaven University

2012 Apr 5

Kelsey Wieberdink and members of several Belhaven University ensembles combined their musical talent to present a collaborative concert on March 31. This free concert in Belhaven's Concert Hall included the Belhaven University and Jackson Community Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble.

Wieberdink from Andover, MN is a junior and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Belhaven University.

Dr. Paxton Girtmon, Associate Professor of Music and Music Education Chair, said, "This concert is always an excellent opportunity to enjoy music from nearly all genres; classical, jazz, contemporary, and percussion. The audience gets to experience the excitement of music and sound through a full range of instrumental tones, color, and energy."

Dr. Paxton Girtmon and Mr. Paul Heindl conducted the ensembles. The ensemble concert featured musical compositions new and old. One of the new compositions, Conversations, came from Belhaven senior music composition major, Cory Gray.

A tenor saxophone solo by Belhaven music performance major, Michael Atkins, was also featured as well as other moving pieces from composers like Travinsky.

Free concerts are hard to come by these days, but Belhaven continually has a number of exciting performances like this one for free. Check out our Arts Ablaze for more.
