2011 Dec 13

Toni Robinson performed in the Belhaven University Vocal Arts Concert, Art of the Spiritual: Moses Hogan Remembered (1957-2003).

Robinson is a freshman from Byram, Mississippi and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Communication at Belhaven University.

Belhaven's Vocal Arts Concert celebrated the life and work of arranger, conductor, and concert pianist, Moses Hogan.

Dr. Christopher Shelt, Professor of Voice, Church Music and Choral Activities led the Belhaven University Concert Choir, Chorale, and select soloists in a stirring offering of the finest spirituals arranged by the late Moses Hogan.

Dr. Shelt said, "His legendary presence within the art of choral music was truly global in scope largely through his remarkable arrangements of African-American spirituals."

Moses Hogan, a native of New Orleans, met an untimely death at the age of 45 due to a brain tumor, but is remembered as an inspiration and jewel in the music world.

This performance was at the Belhaven University Center for the Arts, Concert Hall on November 19. A special Sunday performance on November 20 was held at Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church Sanctuary in Ridgeland.
