Belhaven University's Department of Art and Design will present "Creative Medley," the 2026 Senior Art Exhibition featuring the work of graduating seniors Amari Strong, Edward Sias, and Imari Funchess. The exhibition will run Feb. 14 through March 7 in the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Art Gallery. An opening reception will be held Feb. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m., and a gallery talk with the student artists is scheduled for Feb. 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public. "Creative Medley" highlights a diverse range of creative expression, showcasing the individual artistic voices and culminating projects of Strong, Sias, and Funchess. The annual senior exhibition serves as a capstone experience for Belhaven Art and Design majors, offering the campus and community an opportunity to engage with emerging artists and their original work. The exhibition reflects the students' development in concept, craftsmanship, and professional presentation as they prepare to launch their careers in the arts. Belhaven University will showcase the works of graduating Art and Design seniors Allison Franklin and Emioluwa Akinyokunbo in a Senior Art and Design Exhibition. The exhibit highlights the culmination of their academic and creative development within Belhaven's Art and Design Department. On display January 17 through February 7, the exhibition represents both artistic achievement and a significant step toward professional practice. Senior exhibitions provide students with hands-on experience in presenting, curating and installing their work while articulating their individual artistic voices. The opening reception will be held January 17 from 2-4 p.m., with a gallery talk scheduled for January 26 from 4-5 p.m. Events will take place at the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Art Gallery. The works of visual art and design majors Dajah Carter, Victoria Steinmetz, and Shannon Aardsma will be featured at the senior exhibition "Mementos and Moris."

The works of visual art and design majors Savannah Wimberly, Lauren Watts, and Lilly Perkins will be featured at the Senior Fine Art Exhibition, August 26 - September 16. This exhibit, entitled "Autonomous Reverie," serves as a launching point for professional practice and allows the students to gain practical knowledge of museum work through the crafting and installing of their exhibit. As the culmination of their BFA and BA studies, this exhibit is a collective representation of each student's skill and mastery of visual art. The opening reception for the exhibit will be at the Bitsy Irby Visual Arts and Dance Center Art Gallery on Saturday, August 26, 2-4 p.m. Then on September 11 at 4 p.m., the artists will host a gallery talk to discuss their selected pieces of art. This exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours include Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. This is just one of the many exciting events from Belhaven's School of Arts. Students from Belhaven University's Honors Program recently showcased their academic excellence at the Mississippi Honors Conference, held at Pearl River Community College. The Mississippi Honors Conference is a prestigious statewide competition where students from honors programs across Mississippi present their research and are evaluated on the quality of their work and presentation skills.

Allie Gordon of the Belhaven Softball team has been named the Louisville Slugger Division III Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Tuesday. Gordon is joined by Belhaven Pitcher Kennedy Carruth who was named the Wilson Division III Pitcher of the Week by the NFCA.

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A has published the peer-reviewed research of junior chemistry major Olivia Haney. "It is rare for an undergraduate student to get a published paper, even for larger research universities," said Chair and Associate Professor of Chemistry Dr. Brandon Magers. "Many of our chemistry students participate in internships, but Olivia being an author of a peer-reviewed research article, goes above and beyond. Her lab experience, conference participation, and now-published research will make Olivia a top pick for a job or placement into graduate school."

The works of visual art and design majors Juhyang Lee, Mattea Pierce, Michael Rivers, and Zoe Roush will be featured at the Senior Fine Art Exhibition, beginning March 11.
